Nodaway Valley Conservation Area
Wetlands Restoration and Enhancement

Purpose:
Nearly all the historic wetlands within the Nodaway Valley River basin in Missouri have been drained and are now intensively farmed. This project provided the opportunity to restore over 2,000 acres of diverse wetlands on the Nodaway Valley Conservation Area. The project entailed the design and development of 12 wetland units with independent water management capabilities. In addition, two pump stations were constructed on the Nodaway River to provide a dependable source of water for wetland management.

The area is intensively managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation with emphasis placed on providing both fall and spring migration habitat for migrating waterfowl and other wetland dependent wildlife while also providing a variety of wildlife related public recreation to include hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing. For more information regarding the Four Rivers Conservation Area go to the Missouri Department of Conservation's "Conservation Atlas" at http://mdc.mo.gov/atlas/ and type in the area name.
