Settle's Ford Conservation Area
Wetland Restoration

Purpose:
To restore wetland functions to approximately 1,200 acres of highly altered agricultural land. The project included the design and development of wetland infrastructure that included a diversion structure and channel, breaches to existing agricultural levees, water control structures and river channel reconnections that now allow water from local watersheds to reconnect with the floodplain providing dependable water for wetland management purposes. Because of its location within easy access of Kansas City, this project provides an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the importance and value of wetlands in a highly altered region.

Settles Ford is managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation and is open to a variety of wetland related recreation to include hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. For more information regarding the Settle's Ford Conservation Area go to the Missouri Department of Conservation's "Conservation Atlas" at http://mdc.mo.gov/atlas/ and type in the area name.
